Al tempo della civiltà Maya, mentre un giovane sta per essere sacrificoto agli Dei, il popolo viene attaccato da una tribù di conquistatori che, armati di spade di bronzo, distruggono al solo contatto le spade di legno dei Maya. I Maya si dichiarano vinti, seppelliscono il loro re, incoronano il principe ereditario come nuovo "Balam" e ripiegano nell'odierno Texas. Dopo un periodo di pace, vengono di nuovo attaccati dalla tribù nordamericana guidata da Aquila Nera, decisa ad impossessarsi del loro territorio. Durante la battaglia, Aquila Nera viene ferito e sta per essere sacrificato agli Dei ma è salvato dall'intervento di Balam. Per le due tribù è arrivato il momento di rappacificarsi e combattere uniti contro nuovi invasori.
