In Irlanda, il giovane Gerry Conlon, coinvolto in una guerriglia urbana con gli inglesi e con l'IRA, ripara in Inghilterra con l'amico Paul Hill che, arrestato per un attentato che distrugge un pub e sottoposto a violente pressioni, suo malgrado lo denuncia.
